so you wanna watch precure!

"Waugh! There's like, ten seasons of Precure!"
Nono, there's ten series. Each "season" of Precure is its own contained series. Miyuki's season, Smile Precure! is the Xth season, and you don't need to know anything about any previous season to be up-to-date before watching it. In fact, because every season has its own lore, monsters, and characters, you'll easily become confused if you try to tie them all together into one cohesive storyline.

"Okay, so... which one should I watch?"
This is a mixed bag, as everyone has different viewing styles and different wants out of a series, even magical girl series! A list containing the six most recent Precures (I haven't seen the first three/their sequels, so I can't say anything in regards to them) and their themes can be found below.

Fresh Pretty Cure!

Fresh Pretty Cure! has a theme based around dancing, and achieving your happiness. The lead (pink) Cure is Love Momozono, known as Cure Peach. This Precure is very lively and energetic, and contains a redemption arc for a character. It's 50 episodes long, making it one of the longest, but has some of the best character development thanks to the multiple arcs and character-centric episodes.

Unlike most Cure groups, the Fresh team have been friends for a while, and start out knowing each other fairly well.

Fresh characters are generally noticeable because of the lighter color around their pupils, as the art style they were drawn in had that as a signifying trait.

Heartcatch Precure!

Heartcatch Precure! has a theme based around flowers and fashion, as well as how to change and accept yourself. The lead (pink) Cure is Tsubomi Hanasaki, known as Cure Blossom. This Precure stands out against the others because of its focus on the Victim of the Week; it is a study in indirect characterization. On top of that, the pink Cure does not follow the usual formula of cheerful, bubbly and energetic--Tsubomi is shy, awkward and unsure of herself, but tries her best. The Cure who takes charge tends to be Cure Marine.

The lore within Heartcatch references at least three generations of Precure, with an older mentor figure appearing as early as episode two.

Heartcatch characters are generally noticeable because of the big eyes (unusually big, even for Precure). Heartcatch benefits from its cartoonish style, and has a lot of action scenes that are just straight-up brawling.
